The LIFE Programme is the European Union’s funding instrument dedicated to environmental and climate action. Established in 1992, it has co-financed over 5,000 projects, contributing significantly to the implementation, updating, and development of EU environmental and climate policies and legislation.
The programme is structured into four sub-programmes:
- Nature and Biodiversity
- Circular Economy and Quality of Life
- Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation
- Clean Energy Transition
The Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation sub-programme plays a pivotal role in facilitating the transition towards a resilient, carbon-neutral economy rooted in sustainability, energy efficiency, and renewable energy sources. It supports initiatives that promote renewable energies, greenhouse gas emission reduction, zero-emission mobility, energy efficiency, sustainable farming, and land management practices.
The LIFE Programme’s alignment with the European Green Deal underscores its commitment to transforming the EU into a fair and prosperous society, with a modern, resource-efficient, and competitive economy. By funding projects like LIFE-ACCLIMATE, the programme actively contributes to the EU’s environmental and climate objectives, fostering sustainable development and climate resilience across member states.
