The region of Munguía in the Basque Country has experienced an increase in droughts since 1990, particularly after 2022. Temperatures are expected to rise by between 2.48ºC and 3.07ºC, with maximum temperatures surpassing 36ºC and a significant increase in warm nights, with values above 80 days per year. Minimum temperatures are also expected to rise, but extreme winter minimums will remain above 0ºC.
Precipitation is forecasted to slightly decrease, with reductions in rainy days, particularly for those with over 1mm of precipitation. Munguía will face increased evapotranspiration and reduced runoff, but the region will experience relatively stable cloud cover and no significant changes in wind speed. As with the rest of Spain, water scarcity will likely worsen as the century progresses.
